Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in caring for fish and aquatic stock
  • a willingness to work outdoors on the water
  • good attention to detail when checking water quality
  • an understanding of safe work practices

What will you learn?

You learn to feed and handle stock, keep water quality within range, spot the early signs of disease or pests, and work safely around vessels, chemicals and diving equipment. It suits people starting out on an aquaculture farm, at a hatchery, or in an aquarium or live holding facility, and it is also a way for someone already working in the sector to formalise what they do. Much of the training happens on the job, so you build confidence with the daily routines rather than only in a classroom.
