Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in driving as a job, not just a way to get around
  • a patient, steady attitude in traffic and tight schedules
  • good communication skills for dealing with clients and dispatchers
  • a habit of checking things carefully before you set off

What will you learn?

Students learn the routine that sits around the driving itself: inspecting the vehicle before a shift, loading and shifting materials without injuring themselves, following work health and safety procedures, and managing fatigue on long or early starts. The driving units cover low risk behaviour in both cars and heavy vehicles, so the habits transfer across the fleet. Licensing sits outside the course and is handled by the state or territory regulator, which means the licence you need depends on where you work and what you drive.

Units of competency (7 core, 8 elective)
