Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in how measurement and control systems work
  • a careful and safety-minded approach to tasks
  • good hand skills for wiring, tubing and calibration
  • patience for troubleshooting and problem solving

What will you learn?

You learn to install and wire the equipment, work from instrumentation drawings and specifications, set up and tune control loops, program and configure controllers and human-machine interfaces, and track down faults when readings or controls go wrong. Safety and risk control run through the whole course, because much of the work happens on live, pressurised or hazardous plant. Most of it is hands-on: wiring, tubing, calibration, testing and troubleshooting rather than theory on its own.
