To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in wool and how fleece is judged
  • good communication skills for leading a shed team
  • an eye for detail when sorting and classing wool
  • a practical approach to record keeping and paperwork

What will you learn?

You learn to appraise wool using industry descriptions, supervise a clip preparation team, and keep the records and quality assurance paperwork that buyers expect. It is the specialist qualification for owner classers, and it meets the training requirement to apply for registration with AWEX Ltd as an Owner Classer. Much of the learning happens in a shed during shearing, and it can be completed as an Australian Apprenticeship.
