- patience and a calm approach to daily support
- good communication skills with clients, families and colleagues
- a willingness to work as part of a care team
What will you learn?
Students learn to plan and deliver individualised care, support older people's independence and wellbeing, and respond to conditions such as dementia, chronic disease and the need for palliative care. The legal and ethical side of the work is covered too, along with safe work practices, falls prevention and working alongside carers and families. Supervised work placement in an aged care setting is part of the course, and graduates are often ready to guide other support workers within their team.
