To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in supporting children, young people and families
- patience and calm when people are under stress
- an ability to build trust and listen carefully
- a willingness to follow legal and ethical guidelines
What will you learn?
Students learn how to build trust with a young person, plan and deliver support alongside other services, recognise when a child is at risk and report it, and stay within the legal and ethical rules that govern the sector. A supervised work placement is part of the course, so much of the learning happens in a real service rather than a classroom. The work sits under a defined practice framework, which suits people starting out or moving across from a related role.
