Entry requirements

Nil

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.
  • Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Relevant regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements before applying the qualification.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in helping people with their finances and loans
  • clear communication skills for explaining options to clients
  • a careful approach to rules and regulations
  • good organisational skills for preparing loan applications

What will you learn?

You learn how to interview a client about their situation, compare loans and lenders, prepare and lodge an application, and explain the options in a way the client can act on. A good part of the study covers the rules side of the job, since credit work is regulated and brokers have to follow industry codes as well as the law. No prior finance experience or qualification is required to enrol, though most brokers do this work under a credit licence held by an aggregator or their employer, so it pays to check the current requirements before you commit.

  • Interviewing clients about their needs
  • Preparing and lodging loan applications
  • Comparing loans and lenders
  • Credit law and industry codes
  • Building client and referral relationships
  • Financial products and services
