Account Director resume template preview: an Australian example with a professional summary, key skills, experience bullet points and education sections filled in

Which resume format should you use?

Reverse chronological

You have a steady work history. This is the format almost every recruiter and ATS expects by default.

Functional

You're changing fields or have gaps in your employment. Leads with skills rather than a job-by-job timeline.

Combination

You're early career or have worked consistently but for only a few employers. Blends a skills summary with a shorter chronological history.

This template uses the reverse chronological format: the one most account directors should default to, since most Australian recruiters and ATS software expect it.

Professional summary

Account director with a track record of owning major client relationships end to end, from account planning through contract renewal. Comfortable working with senior stakeholders on both sides of the table, and with pulling product, delivery and support teams in when a client issue needs more than a phone call. Uses usage and revenue data rather than instinct to decide where relationship time is best spent.

Key skills

  • Account and relationship management
  • Contract negotiation and renewal
  • Account planning and expansion strategy
  • Revenue retention and growth
  • Stakeholder management
  • Client advisory
  • Presenting and data storytelling
  • Salesforce CRM
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Tableau
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator
  • Slack

Experience: example bullet points

  • Owned a portfolio of major accounts across software and professional services, retaining the book through consecutive renewal cycles by starting procurement conversations well before contract end dates.
  • Built an account plan for each client mapping expansion opportunities across product lines, which turned three single-product relationships into multi-product ones within a year.
  • Negotiated renewals directly with procurement and finance contacts, holding pricing on the majority of deals while cutting the average negotiation cycle from eight weeks to five.
  • Coordinated product, delivery and support teams on escalated client issues, reducing average time to resolution from two weeks to four days.
  • Presented quarterly business reviews to senior stakeholders on both sides, using Tableau dashboards to show usage trends and make the commercial case for expanded spend.
  • Mentored two account managers moving into larger portfolios, both of whom now run their own major accounts.

Education

A bachelor degree in business, commerce or marketing is the most common entry path into this role, though a diploma or advanced diploma in business or sales is widely accepted when paired with several years of hands-on account management experience.

Keywords an ATS is likely to scan for

Applicant tracking systems match your resume against terms in the job ad before a person ever sees it. Only include the ones that actually apply to your experience, but if a term below matches something you've done, use the same wording the job ad uses.

Getting past ATS screening

This is a starting point, not a guarantee of interviews. Tailor every bullet point to your own real experience and the specific job ad.
