Program Manager resume template preview: an Australian example with a professional summary, key skills, experience bullet points and education sections filled in

Which resume format should you use?

Reverse chronological

You have a steady work history. This is the format almost every recruiter and ATS expects by default.

Functional

You're changing fields or have gaps in your employment. Leads with skills rather than a job-by-job timeline.

Combination

You're early career or have worked consistently but for only a few employers. Blends a skills summary with a shorter chronological history.

This template uses the reverse chronological format: the one most program managers should default to, since most Australian recruiters and ATS software expect it.

Experience: example bullet points

  • Mapped dependencies across multiple projects to prevent a delay in one workstream from stalling others, and facilitated workshops to resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Consolidated budget and schedule forecasts from project managers into a single program view, identifying variances early and keeping the program within its overall funding envelope.
  • Escalated risks and issues to senior leadership with recommended mitigation options, securing sign off on plans that avoided downstream delays.
  • Reported program status, forecasts and benefits realisation to an executive steering committee, using Tableau dashboards to make progress and dependencies visible.
  • Coordinated cross project reporting using Microsoft Project, Jira and Smartsheet, improving the consistency of status updates for the steering committee.

Education

Bachelor degree in business, project management or a related discipline; many program managers also hold a postgraduate qualification such as a Master of Project Management or an MBA.

Keywords an ATS is likely to scan for

Applicant tracking systems match your resume against terms in the job ad before a person ever sees it. Only include the ones that actually apply to your experience, but if a term below matches something you've done, use the same wording the job ad uses.

Getting past ATS screening

This is a starting point, not a guarantee of interviews. Tailor every bullet point to your own real experience and the specific job ad.
