What will you learn?

You learn to read plans and specifications, apply structural principles, assess designs against the code and process building and planning applications for buildings up to three storeys. A large part of the work is on site, carrying out initial, advanced and final inspections and reporting on what you find, along with audits of existing buildings. You also cover the legal and ethical duties that come with signing off on compliance, and how to assess alternative designs where a building does not meet the standard rules. Licensing or registration applies to building surveying in some states and territories, so it is worth checking with the relevant regulator before you enrol.
