Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

- confidence with numbers for estimating costs
- good communication skills for coordinating trades on site
What will you learn?
You study building codes and standards for houses and low-rise residential work, and for commercial buildings within the National Construction Code's Type B and Type C classes, alongside structural principles, business risk and work health and safety. Assessment happens in a real or closely simulated building workplace, and you will need access to a live construction site to complete the site communication and administration requirements. General construction induction training, the White Card, is required before you carry out construction work, and builder licensing differs between states and territories, so check what your local regulator asks for as well.
