To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in looking after fish and shellfish
- a careful approach to cleaning and checking equipment
- willingness to follow health, safety and biosecurity rules
- good communication skills with supervisors and workmates
What will you learn?
You learn the everyday routines of the job: handling and feeding stock, keeping tanks and equipment clean and working, checking water and environmental conditions, and recording what you see so a supervisor can act on it. Health and safety, food safety and biosecurity rules run through everything, because the work happens around live animals and product destined for sale. It suits someone starting out in the seafood industry or already working on a farm who wants their skills recognised.
