Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in boats and how engines work
- a careful approach to safety around fuel and batteries
- good hand skills for repair and maintenance work
- a willingness to learn by doing in a workshop
What will you learn?
You learn to install and service marine engines, trace electrical faults, test and replace batteries, and repair charging and starting systems, with most of the training done hands on in a workshop. Safety and environmental practice run through the whole course, because fuel, oil and battery waste need careful handling around water. It suits school leavers and people already working in the marine or automotive trades who want to specialise.
