Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in working with poultry and their welfare
  • a willingness to follow biosecurity and safety rules
  • good practical skills for handling birds and equipment
  • an ability to solve problems and coordinate tasks

What will you learn?

You learn how to set up and prepare sheds for a new flock, handle and move birds, and carry out routine health care, while meeting the animal welfare and biosecurity rules that apply to keeping poultry. Workplace health and safety is part of the training too, since the work involves machinery, chemicals and physical handling. Much of the learning happens on the job, and the certificate marks the point where you can take responsibility for your own tasks and coordinate the processes around you.
