There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.
  • Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achieving CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in working with tiles and surfaces
  • good hand skills and steady hands
  • an eye for straight lines and even finishes
  • a careful approach to measuring and planning

What will you learn?

You learn to read plans, set out and level a job, prepare and waterproof the surface, then cut and fix the tiles, including decorative work, mosaics and curved surfaces. Most of the learning happens on the job through an apprenticeship, with the off-site training covering measurement, calculation, workplace communication and construction safety. Repairing existing tiling and holding the general construction induction card are part of the picture too.

Units of competency (17 core, 3 elective)
