Entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who: have achieved a Certificate III in Retail or have relevant industry employment experience in a job role that has involved the application of skills and knowledge described in core units of competency from the SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail.

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in leading and supporting a frontline team
  • a head for numbers and store financials
  • good communication skills for staff and customers
  • a practical approach to keeping a store safe and secure

What will you learn?

You learn to read a store's financials, lead a frontline team, build a customer service culture, handle staff relations, keep the store secure and safe, and lift sales results. Entry is open to anyone holding a Certificate III in Retail or with relevant industry experience, so most students arrive already knowing the basics of shop work. It suits team leaders and assistant managers, and leads to roles such as store manager or department manager in supermarkets, department stores, speciality retailers and quick service restaurants.
