What will you learn?
You learn to take a client's site requirements and turn them into detailed drawings and specifications that a construction team can build from, which usually means working with surveying and geotechnical information, drafting software and the standards that apply to civil works. The work suits someone who is comfortable making design decisions within their own area and checking the work of others, since designers at this level often coordinate a small team or a package of drawings. It also opens up paths into site-based roles, estimating and further study toward engineering, though licensing and registration rules differ between states and territories, so it pays to check with the relevant body before you enrol.
