Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in working with your hands
  • patience to get a smooth, even finish
  • an eye for straight lines and level surfaces
  • willingness to work safely and follow site rules

What will you learn?

The training covers the basics that every construction trade needs, including reading plans, measuring and calculating, setting up low scaffolding, and working safely on site. Most of the learning is hands-on, practising the tools and materials until the finish is consistent, and it is usually done through an apprenticeship. Qualified solid plasterers and renderers work on new homes, renovations and commercial buildings, inside and out.

Units of competency (15 core, 5 elective)
