Entry requirements

Individuals must complete an audition or provide another form of evidence which demonstrates their competence in at least one dance style equivalent to Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 4 or above.

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • a love of dance and moving to music
  • patience when teaching beginners
  • good communication skills with students
  • an interest in keeping students safe and well

What will you learn?

You learn how to plan a term of lessons, break down technique for beginners, and keep students safe while they train, including first aid and the particular care that children in performing arts need. There is also a management side: creating short pieces for performance and overseeing how a class or program runs. Entry is by audition or other evidence that you can already dance to roughly the standard the course teaches, so you do not need prior teaching experience to start.
