Re: Application for Quantitative Analyst
I am applying for the Quantitative Analyst role at [Company Name]. I build and validate pricing and risk models in Python and R, and I am looking for a desk where those models are genuinely used rather than left in a research folder.
In my current role I rebuilt the backtesting framework behind an interest rate derivatives pricing library. The work cut the time to validate a model change from roughly a fortnight to a few days, and while testing it I found a stale volatility surface assumption that had been quietly distorting the desk's P&L attribution. I documented the issue, worked with the traders to agree on a fix, and the corrected assumption is still in the library today.

Getting it right
- Keep it to one page. A hiring manager spends seconds on this before deciding whether to read your resume.
- Address a named person where you can find one, rather than "To Whom It May Concern".
- Don't repeat your resume line for line. Use the letter to add context a bullet point can't: why this role, why now, why here.
- Match the tone of the job ad. A formal listing calls for a formal letter; a casual one gives you room to write more like yourself.
