Re: Application for Tax Auditor
I am applying for the Tax Auditor role at [Company Name]. My background is in tax compliance and assurance across income tax, GST and PAYG, and I am comfortable moving between detailed record examination and clear conversations with taxpayers and their advisers.
In my current role I review business activity statements and income tax returns against the underlying ledgers, and I am often the person asked to test a position that does not reconcile at first look. A recent matter involved a taxpayer whose GST credits did not match the sales recorded in Xero; I traced the difference to unprocessed invoices, documented the finding and prepared an adjustment schedule that the taxpayer accepted without the matter going to objection. I also handle the follow-up interview myself, explaining what the records showed and what needed to change.

Getting it right
- Keep it to one page. A hiring manager spends seconds on this before deciding whether to read your resume.
- Address a named person where you can find one, rather than "To Whom It May Concern".
- Don't repeat your resume line for line. Use the letter to add context a bullet point can't: why this role, why now, why here.
- Match the tone of the job ad. A formal listing calls for a formal letter; a casual one gives you room to write more like yourself.
